NA President Asks MPs to Maintain Good Social Order for a Successful General Election

PHNOM PENH: Honorary President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), Chairman of the Tbong Khmum Provincial Party Assistance Team and National Assembly President, Heng Samrin, has said that in order to ensure the smooth success of the upcoming 7th National Assembly election, he requests all members of parliament (MPs) to strive towards maintaining good social order, in accordance with the policy on safe villages and communes, and to increase attention given to the socio-economic development in order to improve people’s living standards.

The National Assembly President made this statement at the closing ceremony of the meeting to review the progress made by the Tbong Khmum Provincial Party in 2022, and to set the party’s work direction in 2023, held on Friday morning, 21 April, at the Tbong Khmum District Party Office.

The National Assembly President emphasized that more attention given to the country’s socio-economic development will help improve living standards and is a step towards the successful implementation of the Royal Government's social protection policy to help alleviate the hardships of the impoverished and most vulnerable.

“The good deeds of party officials will determine the capacity of party members to win the election,” he said. “By abiding by the slogan to ‘Strengthen the old, expand the new, and turn the support of one member into that of the whole party’, [we have been able to] acheive great success in past commune/district council elections.”

He also stressed that the CPP’s success in the upcoming election will allow the Royal Government and the 7th legislature of the National Assembly to run its political program smoothly and continue making great new achievements for the nation and the people.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has continued to strengthen the national social protection system to help support the poor and most vulnerable. This includes he implementation of cash support programs for poor and vulnerable families. At the height of the Covid-19 outbreak in Cambodia, more than 700,000 families (nearly three million people) received monetary support from the government, totaling close to US $1 billion. The government also continued to implement a cash support program in response to rising inflationary pressures.

Nation Assembly President Heng Samrin has urged all MPs to continue their efforts in fulfilling their special duties and to continue performing good deeds to serve the people in a timely and efficient manner.
